Well, we have reached and now passed that '12 week safety mark'. Second trimester, here we come.
I am feeling so much better lately, which I am so thankful for. Being violently ill seems to just be a really bad memory now.
That being said, there are still ups and downs, but I am so so much better than a few weeks ago.
We have our Nuchal Translucency scan tomorrow, so I am excited for that and excited to see baby again. Ben and I rented one of those at home
Doppler machines for this month, so we have been able to listen to Baby's heartbeat at home over the last few days. Well, when I can find it, which is only about 1/3 of the time. It always amazes me though.
The first time I found the heartbeat Ben was at work and I almost tore an arm off reaching for the phone that was on the floor next to me, all while trying to to keep the Doppler in position.
I tried to phone him and it rang and rang but kept going to message bank, so I left a little message for him with our Baby's heartbeat. He liked that. I will see if I can attach a recording
of it to this post.
At 12 weeks Baby already has pretty much every structure, organ and system needed for life by this point. Everything will continue to develop and mature over the next few months,
but Baby really is a perfect, miniature human being. I am really hoping that we get pictures at the scan tomorrow that reflect this and look more 'baby-like' as opposed to the fat jelly bean we are used to.
My tummy is starting to expand, and I think I am near that 'is she pregnant or just ate way too much' stage. Jeans aren't really comfortable anymore (which I find devastating)
and I have started transitioning in to what I think will become my go to pregnant person wardrobe of loose tops and leggings. I also found out that men's t-shirts are
awesome as they are not fitted at the waist like so many women's shirts seem to be. So, I am rocking the dude shirts.
You know how you see all those pictures of radiant, glowing
pregnant women who are smiling and glowing and just generally classy. Yeah, well. That is not me. I have no glow and I am not a classy pregnant person. I use my Sea Bands to tie
my hair into a pony tail when I have to vomit, I steal my husband's clothes to wear instead of mine (including underwear) and I put off shaving my legs for as long
as it takes my husband to start calling me Chewbacca. I have no dignity and I am pretty sure it will get even worse before it gets better. Oh well.
Oh, I don't know why this hasn't come up until now but a few weeks ago Ben painted our Nursery, we had new carpet installed in there and we bought and put up the Baby's cot. This all actually happened a few weeks ago, but I guess we have been a bit preoccupied.
We have slowly started to buy a few baby things here and there... just silly little things mainly. Both Ben and I still think Baby is a boy so I admit we have been more 'boy' focused with our purchases. Ben went a little crazy entering competitions a few weeks ago, but ended up winning a stack of baby loot (the picture with all the wipes, sample nappies and goodies). Things he has won are still turning up in the mail!
I will attach some pictures of our Nursery work in progress as well as some cute baby items we have bought or been gifted so far.
