Long story short, I am not working come 2014. I am however studying full time for my qualifications in outdoor recreation. A little more detail perhaps? OK, I finished my job as a surveyors assistant to venture out into the big wide world. To find new work and to offer my expanding family new prospects. I was actually even offered and accepted a job at Camden Council. It was in the process of looking at this job, the opportunities, the pro's and con's, and the logistics of the move that Alison and I reconsidered our choice. Ultimately we would still like to move in the near future but right now is not that time. Where we are we have both Grandmother's 15 minutes away and we are in an area that we are familiar with and (for the moment anyway) comfortable with. Day Care is already set up here and is able to support us very comfortably for the meantime.
As far as outdoor rec is concerned, it has been something I have always wanted to do and luckily we are in a situation where it is possible. I am also training up to become a qualified educator for daycare so that if Alison needs a day off, or we choose to take alternate days with work/baby we can.
Even I acknowledge that it does sound a little odd to start studying now when Alison and I are about to bring our first baby into this world. But look at the other side. For the first few years of his life he will have his father home with him. As a expectant father I feel that if you had offered any man the same situation, that most would gladly take. I will be able to be home with him during the days and nights. I can help with feeding, I can bond with him, and I can help Alison as much as possible. Those three things are more important to me than any job in the world.
